Overview
FAR 52.223-10, Waste Reduction Program, requires contractors to establish and maintain a cost-effective waste reduction program for all operations and facilities covered by the contract. The clause defines key terms such as recycling, waste prevention, and waste reduction, emphasizing the importance of minimizing waste generation through prevention, recycling, and the use of environmentally preferable products. Contractors must ensure their waste reduction efforts comply with all relevant Federal, State, and local regulations, including Section 6002 of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and its implementing regulations (40 CFR Part 247). This clause is intended to align contractor operations with federal sustainability goals, particularly those outlined in Executive Order 14057.
