53.106 Special construction and printing

Contracting offices can request exceptions to standard forms for special construction and printing needs, but must follow the procedures in FAR 53.103 and ensure modifications do not alter prescribed content.
Overview
FAR 53.106 outlines the procedures for requesting exceptions to the use of standard government forms when special construction or printing is required. Contracting offices may seek approval for variations such as omitting vertical lines, using reproducible masters, creating carbon interleaved pads, or producing forms with special paper, serial numbers, or additional wording. These exceptions are typically needed to accommodate unique operational requirements or administrative needs and must be requested in accordance with FAR 53.103. The section provides specific examples for forms SF 18, SF 26, SF 30, SF 33, SF 44, SF 1442, and SF 1447, detailing permissible modifications for each.
