The Village of Nakusp (the “Village”) is inviting submissions from Engineering Consultants (the “Respondent”) with proven experience, capability and capacity to work with the Village, its consultants and trade contractors per the terms and conditions outlined herein under an Engineering Consultancy Services as Agent contract using CCDC-31.This project will consider and identify green water infrastructure options for at least ten surface water runoff locations in Nakusp, coarsely model the runoff to these sites, and create preliminary designs for the green infrastructure deemed feasible. Nakusp currently manages surface water runoff using both ditches and traditional storm drains. Heavy rainstorms, exacerbated by climate change, are overwhelming the current system. The status quo and currently funded solution is to enlarge the pipes and to install more catch basins. However, with further research green infrastructure may be a good solution to mitigate the increased rainfall intensity. The research will focus on opportunities to use the surface water runoff to improve greenery, help trees, and divert potable water from irrigation requirements. Some engineering designs of common green options like bioswales, tree basins, and bioretention areas may be applicable to Nakusp. The Village needs to consider and identify which options apply locally because many designs were developed for areas where the rainfall patterns and winter weather differ.
