Vermont has been awarded a $195 million Rural Health Transformation grant in the first year of a five-year initiative aimed at strengthening rural health infrastructure. The grant focuses on enhancing rural health networks, improving technology and shared operational capabilities, bolstering the rural health workforce, and ensuring access to timely, affordable care for residents. This particular solicitation seeks to allocate funds to healthcare providers for the purchase or lease of Artificial Intelligence (AI) transcription and scribe technology. This technology is intended for organizations that currently lack it or want to expand or upgrade their existing systems to better support rural communities. AI transcription and scribe technology has demonstrated substantial benefits in primary care settings by automating over two hours of administrative tasks daily, such as transcribing clinician-patient conversations and generating clinical notes and follow-up materials. This allows clinicians to focus more on delivering quality care and has resulted in high satisfaction from both providers and patients in Vermont where it is already in use. The investment aims to improve clinical and administrative efficiencies, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of healthcare in rural Vermont. Interested providers must respond by June 3, 2026, and can contact the Vermont Department of Economic Development for more information.

Vermont has received a Rural Health Transformation (RHT) grant of $195 million in Year One of a five-year opportunity. The purpose of the grant is to build stronger rural health networks, improve technology and shared operations, strengthen the rural health workforce and ultimately ensure that Vermonters receive the right care at the right time for an affordable cost. The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to provide funds to providers to purchase or lease Artificial Intelligence (AI) transcription/scribe technology, for those healthcare organizations that do not have it or wish to expand the use of or upgrade existing AI transcription/scribe technology to support rural communities. AI transcription/scribe technology has proven to increase efficiency and reduce burden in primary care sites. Providers and patients in Vermont are expressing high satisfaction with transcription/scribe technology at those practices where it is already available. Transcription/scribe devices automate an average of over two hours of daily administrative work, transcribing and processing clinician-patient conversations, producing clinical notes and follow-up materials so clinicians can focus on delivering quality care to their patients. Investing in these services will produce clinical and administrative efficiencies for providers that will lead to improvements in the quality of care.
