The Ministry of Forests (FOR) is seeking a Proponent for a wildfire risk reduction treatment of Crown land parcels adjacent to the Port Alberni Highway corridor and two churches. There are 4 fuel treatment units totalling 16.0 hectares that must be completed by March 29th, 2026. There are many public trails and infrastructure in the area that need to be considered for safe operations. The work area must be assessed for wildlife and dangerous trees during the contract period before work starts. The Proponent would be responsible for the wildlife dangerous tree mitigation; however, any felling and/or removal will require authorization by the Ministry Representative. Work will be brushing immature trees less than 15 centimeters; pruning lower conifer branches to a 2-metre fuel stratum gap; limbing and bucking woody debris to lay flat on ground; and removal, dispersal, chipping, or piling of woody debris. This area does have fish bearing streams including minor treatments within riparian management areas. One wildfire risk reduction sign will be installed at Ministry stated locations containing information about fire prevention.
