What does DNR750755 Fishmanagement & Research Adm DNRFRA do?

The DNR750755 Fishmanagement & Research Adm DNRFRA is dedicated to sustaining and enhancing Ohio’s freshwater recreational fisheries through infrastructure development and research-supported management. Its core mission centers on maintaining public access to fishing resources by investing in durable, high-use recreational facilities that support angler engagement and conservation education. Strategic priorities include the design, construction, and maintenance of fishing piers, access points, and related amenities that align with ecological sustainability and public safety standards. The agency prioritizes projects that improve fish habitat accessibility and promote equitable outdoor recreation opportunities across state waterways. Procurement activity is narrowly focused on the development and upkeep of recreational fishing infrastructure, with recent solicitations targeting the construction and renovation of fishing piers at state-managed lakes. Contracts are typically issued as direct solicitations under general construction and public works categories, often utilizing standard government procurement vehicles for civil works and outdoor recreation infrastructure. The agency relies on competitive bidding processes to secure specialized contractors with expertise in aquatic construction, marine engineering, and environmental compliance. The agency’s primary procurement activity aligns with NAICS 713990 — All Other Amusement and Recreation Industries — reflecting its focus on public recreational infrastructure rather than biological research or fisheries management services. No set-aside preferences are indicated in available procurement records, suggesting a neutral approach to vendor eligibility. Vendor relationships appear to favor firms with proven experience in aquatic construction, erosion control, and low-impact shoreline development, though no formal diversity or small business targeting is evident. Organized under the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, this unit operates statewide with no fixed physical headquarters, managing fishing access points across Ohio’s inland water systems. It employs standard federal and state procurement structures for public infrastructure, relying on competitive sealed bids and performance-based contracts to deliver mission-critical recreational facilities.
