What does Fly Nashville do?

Fly Nashville is responsible for planning, designing, and executing critical infrastructure improvements to support regional aviation operations and ground transportation systems. Its core mission centers on enhancing the safety, efficiency, and capacity of Nashville’s air transportation network through targeted construction and engineering initiatives. Strategic priorities include modernizing runway safety areas, upgrading taxiway systems, improving terminal access roads, and maintaining parking infrastructure to accommodate growing passenger volumes and regulatory compliance under FAA Part 139 and TSA standards. The agency prioritizes long-term resilience in aviation infrastructure, ensuring alignment with federal aviation safety protocols and operational continuity. The agency primarily procures civil construction services for transportation infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on highway, street, and bridge construction as well as engineering design for airside and landside systems. Contracts are typically awarded through competitive solicitation processes under standard federal procurement frameworks, with no set-asides identified in recent activity. Engineering services are consistently engaged to support design, planning, and compliance verification for complex aviation projects, while parking and terminal roadway improvements are addressed through targeted construction solicitations. Fly Nashville’s procurement activity is heavily concentrated in NAICS 237310 (Highway, Street, and Bridge Construction) and 541330 (Engineering Services), reflecting its focus on large-scale transportation infrastructure and technical design support. Secondary activity in NAICS 812930 (Parking Lots and Garages) underscores its role in managing passenger access and ground transportation flow. The agency does not utilize set-asides and maintains a neutral vendor selection posture, favoring qualified contractors with demonstrated expertise in aviation-specific construction, FAA-compliant design, and heavy civil works. Fly Nashville operates under the Tennessee state government as a dedicated aviation infrastructure entity, with jurisdiction over airport-related capital projects across the region. It functions as a specialized unit within the broader state transportation framework, utilizing standard public works procurement vehicles and solicitation protocols to deliver mission-critical infrastructure upgrades. Its geographic scope is centered on Nashville’s primary aviation facilities, where it coordinates with federal and state regulators to maintain compliance and operational readiness.
