What does Lawrenceville Correctional Center do?

The Lawrenceville Correctional Center operates as a state correctional facility under the Virginia Department of Corrections, with a mission centered on maintaining secure, functional, and operationally sustainable institutional environments. Its procurement patterns reflect a strong emphasis on facility maintenance, infrastructure support, and essential operational services to ensure daily institutional functionality. Strategic priorities include the upkeep of critical systems such as climate control, lighting, and material handling equipment, alongside the procurement of specialized maintenance services to sustain inmate care operations and facility safety protocols. The agency prioritizes reliability and continuity in its supply chains, focusing on services that support the physical integrity and operational efficiency of its correctional infrastructure. Procurement activity is dominated by temporary help services, indicating a reliance on contracted labor for routine maintenance, laundry operations, facility repairs, and warehouse logistics. These services enable the agency to manage fluctuating workforce demands without permanent staffing expansions. Additional procurements target industrial equipment, including heating systems, lighting fixtures, and material handling infrastructure, all critical to sustaining safe and functional correctional operations. Contracts are typically issued as direct solicitations without set-asides, reflecting a procurement approach focused on operational necessity over socioeconomic preferences. The agency primarily targets NAICS categories related to temporary staffing (561320), industrial manufacturing of maintenance equipment (339994, 333415, 335139, 333923), indicating a preference for vendors capable of supplying durable, facility-specific goods and skilled labor for installation and repair. Vendor relationships appear transactional and performance-driven, with no evidence of diversity-focused set-aside programs. Organized under the Virginia Department of Corrections, the Lawrenceville Correctional Center operates as a single-site state facility with no public indication of multiple locations. It utilizes standard federal and state procurement vehicles for direct solicitations, relying on competitive bidding to secure maintenance services and industrial equipment essential to institutional operations.
