The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is dedicated to the conservation and management of natural resources, with a strategic focus on aquatic biology, wildlife preservation, and public land maintenance. Core priorities include the implementation of scientific research through electrofishing operations and the administration of state wildlife programs, evidenced by the procurement of specialized electrofishing control units and the production of state waterfowl stamps. The agency emphasizes the integration of field-ready electronics and proprietary scientific software to support environmental monitoring and resource data collection.
Procurement patterns indicate a heavy reliance on specialized equipment and industrial logistics. The agency frequently acquires heavy-duty machinery, including construction equipment, industrial trucks, and boat building services, to maintain park infrastructure and watercraft fleets. There is also a consistent requirement for commercial printing services for regulatory stamps and media buying for public outreach. Contract vehicles include a mix of sole source justifications for proprietary scientific technology and subcontracts for technical training and specialized assembly.
Industry preferences center on manufacturers of specialized freight and heavy machinery, as well as commercial printing firms. The agency targets vendors capable of providing niche scientific apparatus, such as electromedical and measuring devices, and those specializing in the manufacturing of small arms and ordnance. They engage with a diverse range of technical providers, from software developers to specialty trade contractors, to support field operations.
The agency operates as a state-level department within the Mississippi State Departments, headquartered in Jackson, MS. Its organizational scope encompasses statewide resource management, requiring a procurement strategy that supports both large-scale infrastructure projects and highly technical scientific research.
