Natural Resources Canada focuses on advancing sustainable energy transitions and the strategic exploration of natural resources. Its core priorities center on the development of a low-carbon economy, specifically through the procurement of hydrogen supply and infrastructure, carbon capture and storage regulatory analysis, and the expansion of zero-emission vehicle charging networks. The agency also prioritizes the discovery of critical minerals through advanced geophysical surveying and the promotion of energy efficiency via brand monitoring for the ENERGY STAR program.
Procurement patterns indicate a heavy reliance on specialized technical services and industrial equipment. The agency frequently solicits high-tech geological services, such as multichannel seismic reflection and magnetotelluric data acquisition, alongside the lease of specialized transport equipment for hydrogen. Additionally, they procure professional services for regulatory analysis, technical maintenance for supercritical carbon dioxide systems, and specialized workshops focusing on artificial intelligence ethics and machine learning.
Natural Resources Canada operates as a department within the Government of Canada, managing a broad scope of energy and mineral initiatives across North America.
