What does Naval Aviation Depot Cherry Point do?

The Naval Aviation Depot Cherry Point, operating under the Department of Defense and administered through Accounting Disbursement Station 660700, is mission-critical to sustaining the readiness of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aviation assets. Its core function centers on the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modernization of aircraft propulsion systems and associated flight-critical components, with a strong emphasis on aircraft engine and engine parts manufacturing. Strategic priorities include enhancing fleet availability through advanced manufacturing capabilities, integrating precision machining technologies, and ensuring compliance with rigorous aviation safety and quality standards. The agency also invests in facilities support, engineering services, and ISO audit functions to maintain operational infrastructure and quality management systems aligned with defense procurement directives. Procurement patterns reveal a consistent demand for high-precision industrial machinery, particularly horizontal and vertical boring machines used in turbine and airframe component refurbishment, alongside engineering services for technical insertion and system upgrades. The agency frequently utilizes presolicitation and solicitation processes to source specialized industrial equipment and technical support, often leveraging government-wide acquisition contracts and indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) vehicles to ensure rapid response to maintenance surges. Industry preferences are heavily skewed toward manufacturers of aircraft engine components and providers of industrial maintenance services, with a clear focus on NAICS 336412 and 333512. The agency demonstrates a moderate preference for Small Business Administration (SBA) set-asides, particularly in procurement of durable goods and support services, indicating an intentional effort to engage qualified small and emerging vendors. Vendor relationships are built on technical certification, quality control adherence, and the ability to deliver mission-critical components under tight operational timelines. Organized under the Department of Defense, the agency operates as a Fleet Readiness Center with a singular, mission-focused installation in Cherry Point, North Carolina. It relies on standardized defense procurement frameworks, including Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)-compliant solicitations and direct award mechanisms for specialized industrial services.
