What does Southern Regional Technical College do?

Southern Regional Technical College is dedicated to advancing workforce development and technical education across Georgia through the acquisition of specialized equipment and infrastructure essential to hands-on training programs. Its core mission centers on equipping students with industry-relevant skills in fields such as automotive technology, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing by procuring high-performance tools and diagnostic systems used in real-world occupational settings. Strategic priorities include modernizing laboratory and workshop environments, ensuring curriculum alignment with current industry standards, and maintaining operational readiness across campus facilities. Key initiatives focus on expanding access to cutting-edge medical simulation tools, automotive repair systems, and digital imaging platforms that mirror professional workplace conditions. The agency frequently procures precision machinery, diagnostic equipment, and technical training systems, often through sole-source solicitations due to proprietary technology requirements or manufacturer-specific training certifications. Contracts are typically structured to secure branded, calibrated, and warranty-supported equipment critical to accreditation and competency-based learning outcomes. The procurement pattern reflects a strong reliance on direct vendor partnerships for specialized, non-commoditized items that require technical support and ongoing calibration. Primary procurement activity is concentrated under NAICS 561422, indicating a broad interpretation of “contact center” services that likely encompasses technical support, equipment maintenance contracts, and training system integration services tied to specialized machinery. A single procurement under NAICS 339113 reflects targeted investment in medical simulation devices for clinical training. The agency does not utilize set-asides and maintains vendor relationships grounded in technical compatibility, service reliability, and compliance with educational accreditation standards. Southern Regional Technical College operates under the Georgia Department of Education, serving multiple campuses statewide with a decentralized operational structure. It utilizes direct procurement vehicles and state contract mechanisms to acquire mission-critical educational equipment, prioritizing durability, safety, and curriculum integration over cost alone.
