The Agricultural Research Service’s Sea Srrc unit, operating under the U.S. Department of Agriculture, advances scientific research in agricultural systems through targeted technical services and specialized equipment support. Its core mission centers on sustaining and enhancing agricultural research capabilities by securing critical analytical instrumentation, laboratory maintenance, and specialized scientific services. Strategic priorities include maintaining high-precision research platforms such as ICP analyzers for elemental detection, deploying advanced molecular screening systems like yeast two-hybrid platforms, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety standards through fire protection and infrastructure maintenance. The agency’s work supports fundamental research in plant, microbial, and peptide sciences, enabling breakthroughs in crop resilience, soil health, and biotechnological innovation. Procurement patterns indicate a strong reliance on professional scientific services and equipment maintenance rather than direct acquisition of research materials. The agency frequently sources specialized analytical support, laboratory system upkeep, and technical consulting services through sources-sought notices, indicating a preference for competitive market engagement prior to formal solicitation. Contract structures are typically performance-based, emphasizing technical proficiency and operational reliability over commodity procurement. Industry preferences are narrowly focused on professional scientific and technical services, particularly in physical and life sciences research (NAICS 541715 and 541990), alongside industrial machinery repair (811310) and electrical contracting (238210). There is no evidence of set-aside preferences or targeted diversity initiatives in current procurement activity. Vendors are selected based on technical expertise in laboratory instrumentation, molecular biology systems, and facility maintenance, with an emphasis on proven capability in federal research environments. Operated as a field unit of the Agricultural Research Service, this entity has no public geographic designation but functions as part of a national network of USDA research laboratories. It utilizes standard federal acquisition channels, including sources-sought notices and direct service contracts, to support mission-critical scientific infrastructure without reliance on large-scale construction or supply procurement.
