Pilot Production Contract

Solicitation # W912CH-26-R-A029

The U.S. Army is soliciting a sole-source pilot production contract under FAR 6.302-1(ii) and (iii)(A) to General Dynamics Land Systems Inc. with Cage Code 7W356, as the only responsible source capable of meeting the agency’s requirements for future Abrams vehicle production in the M1E3 configuration. This three-year hybrid cost-type contract is designed to enable the transition into full-scale production and will be awarded without competitive bidding due to the unique technical and operational specifications only GDLS can fulfill. While other sources may submit capability statements, proposals, or quotations, they are not expected to satisfy the critical requirements, making this a non-competitive acquisition. The contract will be managed by the U.S. Army Contracting Command at the Detroit Arsenal in Michigan, with performance also centered at this location. The solicitation number is W912CH-26-R-A029, posted on July 9, 2026, and classified under NAICS code 336992 for other defense-related manufacturing. Primary contact for inquiries is Contract Specialist Nicole Young, with Contracting Officer John Finn III also available for coordination. The contract aims to secure the industrial base capacity and technological continuity required to sustain the Army’s heavy armored modernization program through direct support to the M1E3 Abrams production line.
