NASA/GSFC is seeking to acquire one MAI-100 Miniature Attitude Determination and Control System designed for nano satellite class 3-axis stabilization. The required system must include three reaction wheels with at least 0.5 mNm torque and 1.0 mNms momentum storage, three magnetic torquer bars with a minimum dipole of 0.1A-m2, and a three axis magnetometer. Additionally, the system must feature an onboard controller with software for attitude estimation and command, maintain a size larger than 4x4x4 inches, weigh less than 1 kg, consume less than 5W of power using 3.3, 5, or 12 Vdc, and communicate via asynchronous RS-232 or RS-422 interfaces. The government intends to purchase this commercial item from Maryland Aerospace, Inc. as the sole responsible source capable of providing a full package ACS for nano satellites. This procurement is being conducted under FAR Part 12 and is designated as a Total Small Business Set-Aside. Interested organizations were invited to submit capabilities and qualifications by November 19, 2010, to determine if the procurement would be shifted to a competitive basis.
