16 -- Notification of PKI Requirement CAV AF on DoD CDM Contracts

Effective November 30, 2007, government contractors accessing the Commercial Asset Visibility Air Force (CAV AF) system are mandated to use a valid Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate in compliance with Department of Defense security policy DODI 8520.2. This ensures secure electronic transactions and applies primarily to contractors involved in existing Contract Depot Maintenance acquisitions. Contractors physically working at DoD facilities with a Common Access Card (CAC) are presumed to already possess the necessary PKI certificate, whereas those not on-site may obtain one through authorized External Certificate Authorities. Exceptions to this requirement apply only to overseas foreign contracts from countries other than the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. The implementation of this policy is expected to have minimal impact as most DoD contractors should already be equipped with PKI certificates.
