HANDLE ASSEMBLY, RIG
The following are acceptable exceptions/clarifications for this NSN: 1) NUWC Code 3433 concurs with the removal of one of the .188 dimensions in Zone B5. The .375 dimension (Zone B5) provides the width of this section thus the two .188 dimensions measuring the width from the #4-40 UNC hole center is over-dimensioning. Please note, NUWC cannot recreate a value of 2.102 inches from the left side of the part. The given dimensions provide a nominal measurement of 2.156 inches [(=.312+(3.156-.375-1.125)+.188) or (4.062-.906-1.000)] from the left side of the part. 2) NUWC Code 3433 concurs with the use of plate/bar/rod stock per ASTM B209, B211, or B221 in place of QQ-A-601 for an alloy and temper with mechanical properties exceeding that of QQ-A-601, CL355-T6. Per 639D010150, Note 10 in conjunction with the identified casting material spec; PN 639C010150 was intended to be cast then machined. Machining the part from stronger ASTM B209, B211, or B221 stock material will produce a stronger part, simplifies manufacturing, and reduces the permitted error per the tolerance block. 3) MIL-P-15328 (639C010150, Note 5) was replaced by DOD-P-15328, then by TT-C-490 with instruction (per DOD-P-15328D Cancelation Notice 3) to use Type III and Type IV compounds listed under QPL-TT-C-490. The primers directly replacing MIL-P-15328 shall be used to the maximum extent possible. MIL-E-52227 (639C010150, Note 5) was replaced by TT-E-529, then by A-A-2962, which indicates Master Painters Institute References 8, 9, 47, 48, 49, 51, and 94 are the acceptable alternatives. Additionally from previous experience (per discussion with Lance Boiselle) MIL-PRF-24635 may be difficult to spray on, making it difficult to apply to 639C10150. The paints directly replacing MIL-E-52227 shall be used to the maximum extent possible. 4) DOD-P-15328 replaces MIL-P-15328, which is called out on several drawings, and is addressed in question 3; please see the response to question 3. 5) NUWC code 3433 recommends the use of MS17182-2 if it can be procured, otherwise MS25036-143 may be used upon the approval of a request for variance (RFV). Per MS17182 Cancelation Notice 2, MS25036-143 is an acceptable alternative to MS17182-2. 6) NUWC Code 3433 concurs to the use of Beacon 325 as an alternative to Dow Corning High Vacuum Grease. ECP AN/BVY-1(V)VAR-F050, block 9 indicates that the listed drawings, including 012570, were revised due to obsolescence issues. Per HL-PER-15-122, Beacon 325 was likely removed due to it not being identified as a high vacuum grease in its description. Beacon 325 has service proven history however, and is still procurable per Exxon Mobil.
