The United States Coast Guard MLC Atlantic plans to issue a purchase order to Wartsila Lips Inc. for a stern tube overhaul kit, part number JCL001169-000E, valued at approximately $50,000. This procurement will be awarded under the authority of FAR Part 6.302-1(a)(2)(iii) due to Wartsila Lips Inc. being the sole source capable of providing the proprietary technical data and manufacturing the required parts. The acquisition will follow Simplified Acquisition procedures as per FAR Part 13, and the notice of intent does not serve as a solicitation for competitive quotes, although the government will consider any relevant information submitted within five days of the notice. The contract is for the Department of Homeland Security’s Sflc Procurement Branch 1 (00080) and will support maintenance needs for the USCGC Elm stern tube. The point of contact for this acquisition is Contracting Officer Kathryn E. Stark, who can be reached via email or phone. The government retains full discretion on whether to proceed competitively based on any information received, but given the proprietary nature of the requirement, Wartsila Lips Inc. is identified as the only responsible source capable of fulfilling this contract.
