1.0 Description of the Opportunity 1.1 Background NASA’s John C. Stennis Space Center (SSC) is located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, approximately 45 minutes east of New Orleans, Louisiana. SSC is the primary NASA rocket propulsion testing Center. The SSC Test Facilities include full scale rocket engine/motor test facilities, component and small engine test facilities, and a materials test facility. Test facilities are comprised of two single position large scale engine test stands; one dual position large scale engine and stage test stand; and the E-Complex for testing of small engine and single/multiple components. SSC also maintains engineering laboratory capabilities to support validation for modeling products, algorithm development, and sensor development to propulsion testing applications. The SSC Applied Science and Technology Project Office (ASTPO) manages the Gulf of Mexico Initiative for NASA's Applied Sciences Program. The mission of the organization is focused on transferring results of NASA’s Earth Science research projects from the lab into the real world. ASTPO works with partners to demonstrate how NASA’s Earth Science assets can address societal issues by using expertise in the fields of remote sensing, oceanography, coastal processes, signal processing and mathematical modeling. The Center Chief Technologist (CCT) is the principal advisor to Center leadership on matters concerning Center-wide technology development and leverage. The mission of the CCT is to provide leveraged technology for programs and projects through technology investments and technology partnerships with industry, academia, government agencies and national laboratories. One emphasis is to develop technologies that addres
