2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant
Solicitation # 2139681
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is administering the 2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Program, funded by a federal appropriation of 857,629 dollars. This program provides matching grants to eligible rural fire departments for the purchase of wildland firefighting suppression supplies. To be eligible, departments must be comprised of at least 80 percent volunteer personnel and serve a rural area, defined as a town or village with a population of 10,000 or less based on the 2020 Census. Selected departments can receive a maximum award of 3,500 dollars, which must be matched 50/50 by the recipient. Grant funds must be used for items directly related to wildland firefighting that benefit the local rural community, with a restriction that no individual item exceeds 9,999 dollars. Selection is based on the department's funding history over the previous five years, whether it is a newly formed establishment, and the presence of a Native American community within its jurisdiction. The program operates under federal guidelines from the US Forest Service and the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978. Applications are accepted through December 30, 2026. This solicitation does not have specific goals for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Minority, Women, or Disadvantaged Business Enterprises. All inquiries and applications are managed by the Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Coordinator within the Division of Forest Protection.

This project involves constructing a 100,000 square foot expandable industrial building on a new development site in Georgia, with the potential for future occupancy to be determined. The scope includes comprehensive site improvements such as grading, storm drainage, utility connections, asphalt paving, and stormwater management measures in accordance with local authorities. The building itself will be a metal structure with concrete foundations designed based on manufacturer specifications, featuring a 50 by 50-foot bay spacing, a ceiling height of 35 inches (with a preference for 40 inches at the eaves), and a standing seam metal roof with batt insulation. Exterior walls will incorporate brick masonry with CMU backup up to 20 feet, and exterior exit ways will be designed to meet code requirements. The building will include electrically operated dock doors and ventilation systems with fans and louvers. Given the undetermined occupancy, the electrical system will be minimal, providing basic lighting, power connections for installed equipment, and provisions for a future fire alarm system. A fire sprinkler stub-in will be installed, matching the municipal water main size, but without a complete system due to the occupancy uncertainty. The project is solicited under the title "2025 Industrial Building," with a contract value estimated between 8 and 12 million dollars, managed by the Tift County Board of Commissioners. The response deadline is June 30, 2025, and interested parties can contact the primary point of contact, Brian Marlowe, via email or phone for further details.
