2245-2255 Post Street (JFCS Holocaust Center) FMND

The City and County of San Francisco is overseeing the redevelopment of 2245-2255 Post Street for the Jewish Family and Children's Services Holocaust Center. The project involves the demolition of two existing buildings and the construction of a new four-story building, approximately 60 feet tall with a total height of 68 feet 6 inches including rooftop equipment. The new facility will encompass approximately 34,073 gross square feet and will feature public exhibition rooms, a lecture hall, a library, offices, educational and conference spaces, and archives. The project is designed without vehicular parking and is expected to take approximately 21 months to complete. The project is governed by the California Environmental Quality Act and adheres to NC-3 zoning and 65-A Height and Bulk District regulations. A Mitigated Negative Declaration has concluded that the project will not have significant adverse environmental impacts, provided specific mitigation measures are implemented. These include strict adherence to the San Francisco Clean Construction Ordinance, requiring Tier 4 Final off-road emission standards for equipment over 25 horsepower and a two-minute idling limit for diesel engines. Additionally, the project requires an archeological testing and monitoring program managed by an Environmental Review Officer, which may include construction suspensions of up to four weeks for data recovery. Contractors must also comply with Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations regarding hazard communication and the labeling of hazardous substances.
