The Air Force has issued a sources-sought notice under FAR 9.2 and Public Law 98.525 establishing Qualification Requirements for the procurement of a specific item, the Stator, Compressor, Stage 4, identified by NSN 2840-01-160-6507RV and part number 728894, with Pratt & Whitney as the original equipment manufacturer. This notice serves to inform potential suppliers that they must undergo a source approval process demonstrating actual production experience with the item, as approval based on similarity to other products will not be accepted. Importantly, this notice does not indicate an imminent purchase or availability of drawings or specifications, as the Air Force typically does not release detailed data to the public. Companies interested in obtaining additional information must submit a formal written or faxed request directly to the Small Business Office at Tinker Air Force Base, with no telephone inquiries accepted. The objective of this action is to identify qualified manufacturers for the item rather than solicit bids, and it underscores the Air Force’s rigorous standards for vendor qualification to ensure the authenticity and quality of supplied parts. The solicitation was posted in April 2002, but there is no indication of set-aside status, NAICS code, or specific agency details, reflecting its primary function as a qualification and capability assessment rather than a procurement opportunity.
