The contract involves the procurement of 357 units of a specific part identified as NSN 9B-3110-015421973-V2, designated as a ball bearing (annular) under solicitation number N0038308G001J5454. The delivery terms specify FOB origin, with the items to be issued to Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation located in San Diego, California. A critical aspect of this contract is the requirement for engineering source approval from the designated design control activity to ensure the part’s quality. The current approved sources hold unique design capabilities, engineering skills, and manufacturing knowledge that are essential for maintaining the quality of the part. This specialized expertise and related technical data are not economically available to the government, highlighting the importance of restricting the acquisition to these approved sources. Any alternate source wishing to supply this part must undergo a qualification process aligned with procedures set and approved by the governing government engineering activity with jurisdiction over the part’s application. This rigorous qualification ensures that the quality and technical integrity of the part are preserved. The contract is issued through the Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, under the Department of Defense. The procurement process reflects a strong emphasis on maintaining strict controls over design and manufacturing knowledge to safeguard part performance and reliability in its intended use.
