The Naval Facilities Engineering Services Center (NFESC) is conducting a market survey to gather information about mobile cold formed steel (CFS) machines and factories that can produce steel products equivalent to standard wood construction materials. Specifically, the inquiry targets equipment capable of manufacturing 2x4 and 2x6 steel studs as well as typical shapes used in general construction framing and cladding. The equipment should be portable, allowing for quick relocation and setup in austere environments with limited resources, and ideally be configured within one or multiple standard 8x8x20-foot ISO shipping containers. While a single unit performing all five requested functions is preferred, consideration will also be given to machines specializing in producing one specific product dimension or shape. This announcement is strictly a sources sought notice and not a solicitation for proposals, meaning no contracts will be awarded based on this information request. Interested parties are invited to submit details such as equipment specifications, performance data, configurations, estimated capital and operational costs, and return-on-investment analyses to assist NFESC in evaluating potential options. Responses must be provided in writing via email by December 1, 2011, to designated contractual and technical contacts. Late submissions may not be considered, and no reimbursement or further communications such as bid packages or solicitation documents will be provided to safeguard the integrity of any future procurement that may arise. The primary end users of the sought equipment are Navy military activities.
