EXCEPTION DATA:
NSWCPD recommends approval for the use of weld procedure W-S8-S45-GT-0-2 and revision 9 of drawing 054-500874-062. Attached titled “Single Pass Weld Justification” is a technical justification allowing single pass welds for pressure containing weld joints as NAVSEA Technical Publication 278 section 6.2.6 prohibits this. The following corrections have been sent to the OEM for typographical updates to the weld procedure, however we can still accept the procedure's use as none of these change the technical nature of the welding. Correct the bend radius in S8-S45-GT-0-1. Either remove S-45 and S-43 from the PQRs or include a note that these were incorrectly labeled. This way if any other naval activities need to look over these procedures/qualifications, they don’t have to spend time questioning the S-# material identifications. Correct the typo in the joint sketch of P-S8-S45-GT-M-1 where S8 is identified as the sheet and tube. Change the option for 0.030” filler wire in the WPS to 0.035” as per MIL-E-21562. This will avoid accidentally using commercial over MIL spec wire. This procedure is only approved for use on classes of welds that do not require NAVSEA approval per NAVSEA Technical Publication 248 section 4-2.5. CHROMALOX INC OGDEN, UT
