The Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia, particularly its Department of Surgery, has an urgent need for a Surgical Ankle Set to support a scheduled surgery. This requirement is classified as Priority 03, emphasizing its pressing nature. The government plans to award a sole source purchase order to Zimmer, Inc., a company identified as other than a small business, for this procurement. The purchase is a one-time buy and not open for competition, with the item being a loaner device specifically prescribed and deemed optimal by the attending physician to meet the medical and lifestyle needs of the patient. Although this is not a formal solicitation for proposals, companies capable of providing an equivalent product are encouraged to submit their technical capabilities, detailed specifications, past performance data, pricing, and delivery timeline for evaluation regarding potential future contracts. This procurement relates to the NAICS code 339113, which covers surgical appliances and supplies manufacturing. The submission and review process allows the government to consider alternative suppliers for subsequent requirements, ensuring that future needs might benefit from competitive offerings. However, this immediate acquisition proceeds directly with Zimmer, Inc. due to the urgent, specific nature of the medical requirement and the assigned priority. The government’s intent is to streamline procurement for an essential medical device critical to patient care, while maintaining an openness to alternative providers for longer-term sourcing.
