The Veterans Affairs Network Contracting Office 6 plans to award a sole source contract to Geo-Med, LLC for the continued supply of custom surgical bundles to the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina. This sole source procurement is justified under specific federal acquisition regulations allowing simplified acquisition procedures for commercial items and is further supported by a VA regulation permitting awards to Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business concerns without competitive determination when only one such business is available. Geo-Med, LLC, the current supplier, is experienced and capable of providing the complex bundles, which include over 500 components, making a transition to a new supplier impractical during the short-term period covered by this bridge contract. The contract will cover a one-year period from June 1, 2017, to May 31, 2018, and serves as an interim solution to maintain supply continuity while a larger procurement process is underway. The NAICS classification for this procurement is Surgical Appliance and Supplies Manufacturing (339113), and the contract falls under Product Service Code 6515 for Medical and Surgical Instruments, Equipment, and Supplies. Although this notice is not a request for proposals, other capable sources may submit capability statements by May 17, 2017, for consideration, with the final decision resting solely with the government. This approach ensures timely delivery of critical medical supplies while complying with federal acquisition regulations and supporting veteran-owned small businesses.
