The Department of Veterans Affairs Network Contracting Office 17 plans to award a sole source, firm fixed price contract to Sirtex Medical Inc. for the provision of four doses of Y-90 SIR-Sphere Microspheres over a one-year period at the Dallas VA Health Care System. This contract, under NAICS code 334517 (Irradiation Apparatus Manufacturing), is intended to support treatment of non-resectable metastatic liver tumors from primary colorectal cancer in Veterans through adjuvant intra-hepatic artery chemotherapy. The award follows a justification of other than full and open competition, citing Sirtex Medical Inc. as the only capable source offering the highly specialized product at the required quality level. This procurement is conducted under FAR provisions allowing limited competition due to the unique nature of the product and the critical patient care needs it addresses. Although this notice is not a solicitation or request for offers, interested parties could express interest and demonstrate their capability by a specified deadline, though any contract award decision remains solely at the Government’s discretion. Communication regarding this opportunity was limited, and responses were to be submitted by a set date via email to a designated VA contact, with no solicitation package available for broad distribution.
