The Southern Regional Contracting Office plans to issue a sole source purchase order to Simulab Corporation of Seattle, Washington, for the TraumaMan training system and associated accessories to be used in the Advanced Trauma Life Support course at the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute, Army Medical Department Center and School, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The solicitation, identified as W81K00-12-R-M033, is expected to be released around September 6, 2012, with ordering anticipated from October 1, 2012, through September 30, 2013. While the contract is planned as a sole source award to Simulab Corporation, other responsible parties may submit quotes and have them considered, provided their proposals demonstrate equivalence in characteristics and usability to the TraumaMan system. The TraumaMan system must meet stringent requirements set by the American College of Surgeons, including realistic anatomic human body models allowing for various surgical procedures. The models need to simulate layers of human tissue, venous and arterial structures, and key anatomical features such as the neck, cricoid, thyroid cartilage, and cricothyroid ligament. Functional capabilities include performing needle and surgical cricothyroidotomy, needle and tube decompression, pericardiocentesis with simulated body fluids, and realistic airflow in the pleura with artificial lungs to simulate breathing. Interested parties must respond by September 6, 2012, at 12:00 PM CST. Delivery is designated for AMEDDC&S at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and award decisions will be made on or after the response deadline.
