The Department of Veterans Affairs, Network Contracting Office 21, intends to award a sole source contract to ARJO, Inc. for the engineering and installation of patient ceiling lift systems at three locations within the VA Central California Healthcare System in Fresno: the Community Living Center, CT Basement, and Nuc Med Department. The procurement includes the supply and installation of ARJO Maxi Sky patient lifts, related track assemblies, hanger bars, spreader bars, and all necessary installation hardware with engineer-stamped drawings to ensure proper securement of the lifts to the ceilings or walls. The specific equipment and installation requirements vary by location but generally involve the Maxi Sky 1000 and Maxi Sky 2 lift models with various track lengths and configurations to accommodate the designated areas. This sole source action is justified based on the existing use and staff familiarity with ARJO’s patient lift systems throughout the VA Fresno Facility, emphasizing patient safety and the need for standardization to avoid staff confusion or injury resulting from use of different systems. ARJO is the only authorized installer of its ceiling-mounted patient lift systems, further supporting this acquisition approach under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1). Although this is not a request for competitive quotes, other businesses can submit written notices of capability by a specified deadline for consideration, but the decision on whether to compete the acquisition remains solely with the government. The contract falls under NAICS code 339999 for miscellaneous manufacturing with a size standard of 500 employees, and the applicable PSC code is 6515 for medical and surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
