The Chalmers P. Wylie Columbus Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center plans to procure a Sakura VIP 6 AI Tissue Processor through a sole source solicitation, authorized under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), due to the unique requirements of compatibility and continuity with existing equipment. The procurement targets Government Scientific Source, Inc. as the only source for this current model tissue processor, which includes advanced features such as a fume control system, high-resolution color touch screen, automatic paraffin degassing, automatic reagent transfer, onboard mixing from bulk reservoirs, a heated reagent station, and an illuminated reagent cabinet. The Anatomical Pathology Lab processes approximately 6,000 tissue blocks annually and operates two identical machines concurrently, necessitating the same equipment type to maintain operational consistency. Interested parties who believe they can fulfill this requirement are invited to submit their interest and capability without cost or obligation by a specified deadline, which will help the VA determine if a competitive procurement is warranted. However, the decision to proceed without competition rests solely with the Government. All inquiries must be directed via email to Tiera Sims, and no solicitation package is currently available. The contract falls under NAICS code 339113, related to surgical and medical instrument manufacturing, with a small business size standard of 750 employees. The contract office managing this action is located in Dayton, Ohio.
