The U.S. Army Contracting Command at Natick, MA, intends to award a purchase order to Instron of Norwood, MA, for an Instron Model 5967 Materials Testing System. This system, designed as a dedicated tensile tester for textile and hardware materials, has a capacity of 6750 pounds and includes features such as BlueHill 3 Software, pneumatic grips, load cell verification, speed and displacement verification, installation and training, integration with the customer's computer, and a one-year warranty. The procurement is conducted under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), and aims to support the Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC). The acquisition offers cost savings by leveraging existing accessories and tools already compatible with other Instron tensile testers at NSRDEC, avoiding the need for additional purchases of grips, load cells, capstans, hardware, and ongoing maintenance and calibration expenses. Sharing components among several existing testers will reduce costs and maintain consistency in manufacturers' data, avoiding variation that could arise from using different instruments. Interested parties could submit their quotes and specification packages for consideration by the August 3, 2012 deadline. This procurement supports efficient operation within the Department of Defense, specifically targeting textile and hardware material testing capabilities at the NSRDEC facility.
