The U.S. Geological Survey’s Eastern Ecological Science Center is procuring a single Illumina MiSeq i100 Plus sequencing system under a non-competitive purchase order justified under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1) due to the proprietary nature of Illumina’s hardware, software, consumables, and DRAGEN secondary analysis pipelines, which are incompatible with any competing platforms. The system, catalog number 20115695, includes an onboard touchscreen interface, integrated computing, and a 12-month parts and labor warranty, and is essential for maintaining data continuity in ongoing research projects focused on disease surveillance, pathogen discovery, invasive species monitoring, species conservation, and ecosystem assessments in regions such as the Chesapeake Bay. The acquisition is firm fixed-price totaling $119,473.68, with delivery required within 60 days of order receipt at the EESC facility in Reston, Virginia, where the instrument will be operationalized for high-priority genomics and environmental DNA studies. The North American Industry Classification System code is 334516, with a size standard of 1,000 employees, and while Illumina is the sole supplier capable of meeting the technical requirements, no socioeconomic set-asides or contractor certifications are indicated. The procurement is informational in nature, with capability statements accepted from interested parties under FAR 5.207 but no competitive evaluation process taking place. No formal packaging, inspection criteria, invoicing method, or point of contact for contract administration beyond the acquisition email address are specified, and no contract clauses, representations, or special requirements such as security clearances or options are detailed in the documentation.
