The U.S. Geological Survey, under the Department of the Interior, is conducting market research through a sources sought announcement to assess industry capacity for the acquisition of two Silicon Audio Model 203-60 high-sensitivity borehole accelerometers, designed as replacement units for existing seismic monitoring systems. These sensors are scientific-grade, 3-axis devices utilizing optical interferometric technology to deliver exceptional signal-to-noise performance, with a passband of 0.005 to 1500 Hz, sensitivity of 60 V/g, dynamic range of 172 dB, and noise levels as low as 0.5 ng/√Hz at 10 Hz. The sensors feature a compact 2.0-inch diameter by 14.5-inch length housing, operate within a temperature range of -35°C to +75°C, require 6–25 V DC power, and consume 150 mW of power. The agency has determined that Silicon Audio is the sole source capable of providing equipment that meets the exacting technical specifications and ensures full compatibility with legacy systems, justifying a sole source approach under FAR Part 12 for commercial items. This notice, issued under solicitation number 140G0326Q0139, is not a request for quotes but serves as a formal notice to satisfy RFO FAR Subpart 5.101(a) requirements and to allow all responsible parties an opportunity to submit product data sheets by June 29, 2026, at 1500 PST, exclusively via email to yangzhideng@usgs.gov. Responses submitted through hardcopy or web portals will not be considered, and the government retains full discretion to determine whether competition is warranted based on responses received. The action falls under NAICS code 334513 with a size standard of 750, and no pricing, delivery schedules, inspection criteria, or contract clauses are defined at this stage, as the purpose is strictly market research to inform future acquisition decisions.
