The Department of Defense, specifically the W6QM Micc-White Sands, has issued a sources sought announcement for the acquisition of one wind-finding Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) instrument. This equipment is intended to support meteorological operations for Missile Defense Agency ballistic target launches at Pacific Range Support Team open-air test ranges. The instrument must be capable of measuring wind speeds from less than 1m/s to 70m/s at ranges between 30 and 250 meters, featuring a Class 1M eye safety rating and the ability to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +45 degrees Celsius. Key technical requirements include real-time serial output at 1-Hz frequency, easy deployment in rough terrain, and compatibility with 120 VAC power. This announcement is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or an intent to procure. Interested vendors must submit a response of ten pages or less, including their business name, size, point of contact, and Cage Code, to the designated email address by 1300 MST on May 6, 2014. The government will not provide payment for information submitted and reserves the right to reject any input. Validated performance against an instrumented MET tower and two days of on-site training at White Sands Missile Range are also required components of the potential acquisition.
