The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to award a sole source purchase order to ISOTEC INC. for the custom synthesis of stable isotopes. These isotopes are specifically used to determine exposure to trans fatty acids in human populations. This acquisition is justified under FAR part 6.302-2, which permits a non-competitive procurement due to unusual and compelling urgency, where competition is impractical and delaying the purchase would seriously harm government interests. Consequently, this contract is not open for competitive bidding, and no solicitation is publicly available. However, the CDC invites any firm believing they can supply the required products to notify the Contracting Officer within 10 calendar days from the notice's publication, although whether to proceed competitively remains at the government's discretion. The key points of contact for this procurement are Contract Specialists Terrance W Perry and Russell T Oxford. The contract falls under NAICS code 325199, related to chemical manufacturing. The sole source nature and urgency of the contract highlight the critical need for the specialized isotopes and the importance of timely delivery for the CDC’s research and public health efforts.
