California Resources Production Corporation is undertaking a well rework operation at the Lehnhardt 53 well in the Kern Front Oil Field, Kern County, to convert the existing well into a temperature observation well. The work involves deploying a completion rig to nipple up and test the blowout preventer, pulling out the existing production equipment, cleaning out the wellbore to bottom, and running in a 3.5-inch casing string cemented from approximately 2,224 feet measured depth to surface. A Surface Annulus Pressure Test will be conducted under the direct observation of the California Department of Conservation, Geologic Energy Management Division, followed by a temperature survey to support ongoing monitoring. All activities are confined to the existing wellpad with no new ground disturbance, no permanent facilities constructed, and no expansion of associated infrastructure. Temporary mobile equipment including a workover rig, pumps, and return bins will be used, along with vehicles to transport personnel and materials. Inspection and acceptance are performed on-site by CalGEM, with no federal procurement elements, contract pricing, or standard FAR clauses applicable, as this is a state-regulated environmental permitting action rather than a federal acquisition.
