California Resources Elk Hills, LLC is authorized by the California Department of Conservation, Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) to perform a sidetrack or replacement of an existing wellbore, identified as API 0402902597 (Well Name 2111-1C), located in the Buena Vista Hills Oilfield. The primary objective of this project is to replace lost production. The work is classified as repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of a previously permitted well and will maintain the same purpose and capacity as the original well without expanding its former use. The project is estimated to take between 7 and 10 days to complete and will be conducted entirely on an existing pad to ensure no disturbance to undisturbed areas. Because the operations result in only minor alterations with negligible permanent effects on land, water, air, or vegetation, CalGEM has issued a Notice of Exemption from full environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), citing categorical exemptions for existing facilities, replacement or reconstruction, and minor land alterations.
