Berry Petroleum Company, LLC is proposing to rework one existing well, identified as Berry and Ewing i2 (API 0403063039), located in the Midway-Sunset oil field in Kern County, California. The project is designed to address well integrity issues through repair, maintenance, or minor alterations to the existing wellbore to protect natural resources and the environment. The work will be conducted entirely on an existing pad and will maintain the original purpose and capacity of the well without any deepening, expansion of use, or additional construction. The California Department of Conservation, Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) is overseeing the approval of the permit. Under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the project has been granted a Notice of Exemption, as the modifications are considered minor alterations with negligible effects on the land, air, water, and vegetation. This exemption is consistent with CCR 1684.1 and 1684.2, and the project was certified by Charles Brinn on December 9, 2025.
