The California Department of Conservation, Geologic Energy Management Division, has approved a permit for California Resources Production Corporation to perform a rework of the Pleito Ranch PR 46-25 oil and gas well located in Kern County. The project is situated on private surface and private minerals within the Pleito Ranch Oil Field. The scope of work focuses on repairing casing damage and implementing a water shut-off, with activities including the alteration of well casing and the potential installation or removal of downhole equipment such as cement plugs and packers. The project is estimated to take between 7 and 10 days to complete. It has been granted a California Environmental Quality Act Notice of Exemption based on categorical exemptions for existing facilities, replacement or reconstruction, and minor land alterations, as the work is expected to have negligible permanent effects on the surrounding environment. The project falls under Group A of the CalGEM rework exemptions guidance published in December 2023.
