AI Contract Overview
The US Geological Survey intends to award a sole-source purchase order to TELONICS INC. for radio collars essential to ongoing wildlife tracking efforts in Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge, where interagency data sharing depends on highly integrated systems. TELONICS is the only vendor whose equipment is natively compatible with the existing software infrastructure for data collection, transmission, and analysis; any alternative would necessitate costly and risky modifications to established workflows, disrupting critical operations. The procurement will follow FAR Part 12 procedures for commercial products and services and is justified under sole-source authority due to the lack of viable alternatives. This notice fulfills FAR Subpart 5.2 requirements and is not a solicitation for competition, though responsible parties may submit capability statements by the deadline. Responses must be sent exclusively via email to victor_nuno@ios.doi.gov and received no later than July 15, 2026, at 12:00 PM Eastern Time; hardcopy or alternative submissions will not be accepted. The NAICS code for this requirement is 334220, and the point of contact is Victor Nuno, with inquiries directed to vnuno@usgs.gov and phone 916-278-9442.

Full Description
The US Geological Survey (USGS) intends to award a purchase order to TELONICS INC. The award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Products and Commercial Services, and the applicable simplified acquisition procedures.
Staff at Grand Teton National Park (NPS) and the National Elk Refuge (USFWS) jointly conduct multiple wildlife tracking projects involving species that routinely move between the two jurisdictions. These interagency efforts rely on standardized data formats, shared processing code, and integrated visualization tools that have been collaboratively developed and refined. Maintaining compatibility with these systems is essential to ensuring continuity of operations, data integrity, and seamless interagency data sharing
The required radio collars must be fully compatible with the Governments existing software environment for data collection, transmission, and analysis. TELONICS is the only known vendor that provides equipment natively compatible with these systems. Other vendors products would require significant modification or replacement of existing software and processes, which would increase costs, introduce technical risk, and
disrupt ongoing operations purpose.
This notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.2. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible parties may submit a capability statement which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued. A determination not to compete this action based upon responses received is in the sole discretion of the Government.
