The U.S. Army RDECOM Contracting Center’s Natick Contracting Division plans to award a firm fixed price purchase order on a sole source basis to Camel Manufacturing Company for testing a new tent insulation technology designed for the Army’s airbeam TEMPER shelter. This insulation liner, created by Camel Manufacturing using a proprietary fire resistant 3M Thinsulate textile made from U.S. materials, provides enhanced thermal resistance in a lightweight and compact package tailored for Combat Support Hospital applications. Camel Manufacturing is uniquely positioned to supply this liner as they are currently the only company with the specific 3M Thinsulate configuration, necessary patterns, and materials ready to meet the project’s testing timeline. Extensive market research has been ongoing since fiscal year 2010, consistently identifying this material as the top candidate meeting the Army's performance requirements. Recent modifications to the fibers have enhanced flame resistance and ensured U.S. manufacture. The sole source award follows the determination that no other suppliers can meet the specific needs within the required timeframe. Interested parties were invited to express interest by a set deadline, but no solicitation or proposal requests were issued as this contract is proceeding without competition under FAR guidelines. The contracting office is located in Natick, Massachusetts, with a designated point of contact for additional inquiries.

Nature and description of the supplies or services required to meet the agency's needs: The Army Medical Materiel Development Activity has requested testing of a new tent insulation technology for their newly adopted airbeam TEMPER shelter. This insulation will provide energy savings in a lightweight, low cube package for Combat Support Hospital applications. A new insulated liner for the TEMPER airbeam shelter has just been designed, patterned and fabricated by Camel Manufacturing, Inc. that incorporates a new fire resistant 3M Thinsulate textile, made from U.S. manufactured materials.
