The Department of Veterans Affairs, National Acquisition Center, released a request for information for commercial laundry bags, seeking input from vendors to ensure that the specifications are appropriate and not overly restrictive. The requirement covers multiple types of laundry bags designed for handling linens, especially in environments with potential infectious materials, as well as for general use areas without infection risks. The bags are specified in various sizes, primarily 18-inch and 26-inch diameters, and in two fabric types: 100% polyester for infectious material containment, featuring impervious one-ply polyester with carbon filament to reduce static discharge, and cotton-polyester blends (50/50 or 65/35) for lower-risk areas. All bags must be commercially launderable and come with color options of red, white, and yellow. Detailed construction requirements emphasize durability and quality, including specifications for fabric weight, stitching, seam integrity, and labeling requirements indicating fabric content, care instructions, and country of manufacture. Design elements include options for round or square bottoms, pull-over cover flaps sized 16 to 18 inches, reinforced handles for emptying, elastic bands at the top to secure contents, and color-matching thread. Stress points must be bartacked, seams serged, and finished without holes, runs, or loose threads to ensure the bags’ usability and longevity in healthcare environments. The solicitation clarifies that this is strictly an information-gathering effort, not a solicitation for bids or samples, with interested parties encouraged to submit comments, questions, or capability statements by the specified deadline.
