The U.S. Army Contracting Command at Natick, on behalf of the Program Manager Infantry Combat Equipment, is procuring roughly 1800 yards of knit and woven flame resistant fabric for test and evaluation purposes to support the U.S. Marine Corps. This effort aims to enhance the durability and performance of the current flame resistant combat ensemble (FRCE), addressing known durability challenges experienced during Operation Enduring Freedom. The improved materials are expected to provide the same level of flame resistance and comfort while offering superior strength, thus increasing survivability, mobility, and overall combat effectiveness for Marines engaged in Overseas Contingency Operations. The contract will be awarded as a firm-fixed-price order to Burlington Industries, a large business based in Greensboro, NC. It involves supplying three types of fabrics—300 yards each of two knit types and 1200 yards of woven fabric—for the production of test uniforms to be used in a Follow-on Field User Evaluation. The procurement falls under the North American Industry Classification System code 315999, indicating fabric manufacturing, and is managed by the Department of Defense office located in Natick, Massachusetts. This acquisition is a critical step toward fielding more durable and effective personal protective equipment for Marines in combat environments.

U.S. Army Contracting Command - APG, Natick Contracting Division, on behalf of the Program Manager Infantry Combat Equipment (PM ICE), has a requirement for approximately 1800 yards or knit and woven fabric for test and evaluation. The US Marines Corps seeks to improve/maximize the performance of the current flame resistant combat ensemble (FRCE) through the identification of materials that meet or exceed the current physical test requirements The Enhanced FRCE capability will increase the survivability and mobility of the individual Marine supporting the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO), thus increasing the Marine's lethality in combat. In addition, increased durability will extend the FRCE wear life. The current flame resistant combat ensemble (FRCE) has durability issues in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). New flame resistant materials, with superior strength properties, and the same level of protection and comfort, have been identified through market research. The Government anticipates awarding one (1) Firm-Fixed Price Order to Burlington Industries, a large business located in Greensboro, NC. This order is being awarded to provide three Burlington fabrics (300 yards knit Type I, 300 yards knit type II, 1200 yards woven) for construction of test uniforms to be used as part of an upcoming Follow-on Field User Evaluation (FFUE).
