AI Contract Overview
The 96th Street Artificial Reef Bulkhead project aims to enhance waterfront infrastructure in Martin County by constructing a approximately 210-foot-long bulkhead along the shoreline at 96th Street beneath the Arundel bridge. This structure will facilitate barge loading and unloading activities related to artificial reef materials, providing a dedicated staging area that minimizes disruption to local fishermen and park visitors at nearby boat ramps. To accommodate the shoreline's sinusoidal shape, dredging and filling operations will be necessary to install a straight bulkhead and level the land behind it, with dredged material repurposed to fill the landward area and straighten the shoreline. Funding for this project comes from the Florida Inland Navigation District through a designated project agreement, requiring the selected contractor and subcontractors to adhere to all relevant federal, state, and local regulations. The project solicitation, posted in July 2024, invites bids with a contract value estimated between $500,000 and $1,500,000, and emphasizes compliance with applicable standards. The initiative is part of Martin County’s efforts to improve waterfront access and support maritime activities while maintaining environmental and community considerations.
