The Idaho National Laboratory has developed a cost-effective, continuous process for producing nanoparticle semiconductor materials, specifically copper-indium-disulfide, for use in advanced photovoltaic devices. This tunable method produces particles starting at 3 nm with a narrow size range and minimal waste, utilizing existing reactor technology to significantly reduce production costs compared to current industry standards. The laboratory is seeking qualified partners to commercialize this technology and participate in projects through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, with funding provided by the participants. Intellectual property rights may be available via exclusive or non-exclusive licenses. Interested parties must enter into a nondisclosure agreement to discuss technical details and are encouraged to respond within two weeks of the notice.

Full Description

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) has discovered a method for the production of nanoparticle semiconductor materials. We have produced nanoparticle sized copper-indium-disulfide semiconductor materials that are used in advanced photovoltaic devices. The source of the semiconductor materials are derived from inexpensive materials. The particles produced are well known nanoparticle semiconductor materials capable of capturing photonic energy and converting it to electron energy. Other nanomaterials may be produce by the process. Additional novel uses of the process and materials have also been proposed by the inventors. The primary advantages of the process are: - The Cost to produce nanoparticles is orders of magnitude less than current processes; - Little or no waste created from the process; - The process creates nanoparticles in the range of 3 nm and up; - The process is tunable to produce the desired nanoparticle size; - The process creates a narrow range of nanoparticle sizes (+/- 1 nm in size); - New applications are possible as a result of the new nanoparticle creations; - The process conditions allow for use of current reactor technology; and - The process utilizes a continuous process. The INL is soliciting interest from qualified partners interested in participating in projects and commercializing this technology. It is anticipated that the project will be carried out through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with funding support being provided by the participant(s). The INL is seeking patent protection on the process and rights to practice the intellectual property may be licensed exclusively or non-exclusively. The INL invites interested parties to contact us regarding the details of licensing and commercializing this technology. A nondisclosure agreement will be necessary to discuss the technology in detail. Interested parties should respond within two weeks of the first posting of this notice.
