The Recovery After Initial Schizophrenia Episode (RAISE) award is a multi-site clinical trial focused on developing and testing intervention methods to improve treatment adherence, promote recovery, and prevent disability in patients experiencing their first episode of schizophrenia or related psychotic disorders. This research initiative was established through full and open competition as one of two awards granted under the solicitation, with the other being awarded to the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. The initial period of performance runs from July 12, 2009, through July 13, 2011, with potential extensions lasting until July 12, 2014. These options allow for the implementation of a large randomized controlled trial, an increase in subject recruitment, and expanded data analysis. Due to the unpredictable nature of research and development costs, the contract is not a fixed-price agreement.

This award is a multi-site clinical trial to design and test a method of intervention that has the capacity to promote engagement and adherence to treatment, foster recovery, and reduce or prevent disability in patients experiencing a first episode of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders. The period of performance is July 12, 2009, through July 13, 2011, with options to extend the contract to include a large randomized, controlled trial, increase the number of subjects recruited, and to extend performance for enhanced data analysis. The total period of performance with options is until July 12, 2014. This award was made under full and open competition, but it is not fixed price due to the uncertain costs of research and development contracts. This is 1 (one) of 2 (two) awards under this RFP. In addition to this award, a second award was made to Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc.
