The Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has a requirement to research and develop a resistance spot welding procedure for the newest generation of advanced automotive steel and produce samples for mechanical testing. In addition, NRCan requires this work will be carried out with production replica machinery that is capable of monitoring welding process variables. The work will involve the following: development of a welding process window, collection and interpretation of dynamic welding process data (resistance, current, voltage), production of mechanical testing samples, metallurgical characterization of the welds, technical research report documents for NRCan. A final presentation on all results will need to be conducted onsite at CanmetMATERIALS laboratory.
