This preliminary notice is a Request for Information (RFI). The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) at the U.S. Department of Education is piloting multiple initiatives to support advanced research and development to make dramatic advances towards solving seemingly intractable problems and challenges in the education field. Our goal is to invest in ideas that build on high-quality scientific evidence, catalyze bold and innovative thinking, support teams that demonstrate interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration, and ultimately produce solutions that will improve education outcomes for all learners and eliminate persistent achievement and attainment gaps. IES requires support for this initiative from an organization with experience supporting the incubation of transformative ideas by bringing together diverse, cross-disciplinary perspectives.
