The department will be purchasing and installing the volumetric Soil-Water content sensors at over forty mesonet stations to integrate the soil moisture and temperature data into the Missouri Mesonet system, which continuously transmits monitoring station data to NOAA and make the data publicly available. The Acclima time domain reflectometry (TDR) soil-water sensors have been selected for this project because of their proven performance in soils with high clay content and smectite clay minerology, which are both common in Missouri. The TDR 315N Soil Water Content Sensor, which has 15 cm long sensor rods, measures soil moisture and temperature.
